After much deliberation and faltering, I am releasing “Everything & Inbetween”, a most personal collection of songs and instrumentals.

This new work draws on the pure instrumental ambiences & atmospheres found on my EP & Dark Descended album and incorporates more of the song elements found in my Retrospective works.

The album was created at my home-studio Benbecula, with a deliberate choice to make do only with the mostly domestic resources I had immediately to hand. As a whole it is basic essentials recording with ‘no frills’ technology. I’ve stretched each element to the max, drawing out a particular character only found exploring bare necessities.

The work encapsulates my best attempt to express deepest thoughts and come to terms with feelings brought to the fore, witnessing the passing of my mother over an intensely long drawn out period of time. 

The instrumentals are a portrayal of a keen sense of time that came to bear down on everyone in my family and those close friends who had known my mother, some since she was very young. They are also an attempt to conjure a feeling of creeping paralysis, to direct the conscious mind to reflect on being alive but only able to receive senses whilst gradually consumed, losing all ability to interact with the word. 

The songs are in some way a release from a fierceness of grief felt in the lead up to the death of a loved one. Lyrically, they move from the hope and positivity found in believing in a better future; through reflections on longing and loss reaching total despair, to a sense of resolution and acceptance.
